As reported by The Guardian, the COVID jab budget is decreased by over 60% ahead of winter
The NHS’s autumn COVID jab budget has gone from £11m to £4m despite WHO’s warnings about the surge of winter contaminations and deaths.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has affirmed that the government is working on various methods to collaborate with industries, retailers and charities to promote vaccination.
While there are concerns over Liz Truss’ endeavour to remove the increase in national insurance – an increase which was supposed to cover additional funding for the NHS, health secretary Thérèse Coffey is reassured that the funding will still be available.
“Instead of having, in effect, a ringfenced levy, we will be funding that out of general taxation, so the investment going into health and social care will stay exactly the same,” says Coffey.
WHO has also warned that travel restrictions to Europe might be enacted due to the surge of COVID cases that match last autumn’s numbers.
