Mental health volunteer set to cycle 145 miles for charity

As reported by BBC News, Darren Atwood will cycle from London to Melton Mowbray on August 24th

The 36-year-old, from Melton, began volunteering at ‘Unlock Your You’ after the organisation supported him with his own “crippling” mental health issues.

Mr Atwood will cycle 36 miles a day for four days.

Darren, also a trained counsellor, said he is “forever grateful” for everything the organisation has helped him with.

“For years I have struggled with my mental health after suffering from historic child abuse. When I turned 30 I was feeling isolated, trapped, and terrified; I contemplated ending my life”.

Mr Atwood raised £1,000 for the charity and hopes to raise further awareness of its work during his challenge.

He added: “I can’t believe how close I came to losing everything – this bike ride is for Unlock Your You who and all the amazing volunteers who helped me through it all”.
