Parents and children urged to take precautions as increase in winter viruses shows across the UK
Due to the absence of lockdown, the amount of flu cases this autumn has increased as compared to the last two.
The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) has shown rising numbers in younger children and is particularly dangerous to those aged under two.
Individuals suffering from Norovirus, mostly identified as a vomiting bug, are advised to stay home until the symptoms have passed and intake lots of liquids.
“If you are ill, avoid visiting babies. Smoking around babies also increases their risk of severe RSV infection,” says Dr Conall Watson, consultant epidemiologist for the UKHSA.
Children aged between two and three are able to make use of the flu nasal spray vaccine and are encouraged to practice good sanitary habits to avoid contamination.
