As part of Operation Warm Welcome, the Practice Managers Association (PMA) is working alongside the the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to support those Afghan citizens who have resettled in the UK to find work and integrate into UK life
The Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) launched last month and the UK has promised to rehome thousands of Afghan nationals who escaped the country after the Taliban regained power last year. In addition to offering a place of safety for those fleeing conflict and persecution, the initiative also helps people find appropriate work and PMA
will be working hard to match people with the right job role or arrange valuable work experience.
Austin Ambrose, PMA client services director, said: “We are determined to support this incredibly worthwhile scheme. A lot of people who’ve travelled here from Afghanistan are highly qualified and could easily take up a role in Primary Care in the next few weeks, they simply need the support and guidance to get there.”
He added: “As we’ve recently launched PMA Recruit, we are best placed to match and support people into work in the health and social care sector and more importantly, find the right – and most rewarding – role for them. We have
dozens of new vacancies coming through each week and will be liaising with the DWP to fill them.”
The ACRS is part of the New Plan for Immigration, supporting the world’s most vulnerable to come here legally and provide tens of thousands of at-risk people with the chance to start a new life in the UK.
Minister for employment Mims Davies MP said: “Six months on from the fall of Kabul our focus continues to be on helping Afghan citizens enter the UK labour market. These citizens have a wealth of skills, talents and experience across a wide range of sectors which would benefit any employer. Our DWP Work Coaches provide that vital support to help these citizens overcome any barriers and take that next step to getting into work.
“Our country has a proud tradition of supporting people and I applaud the many companies, like PMA, who are collaborating with our Jobcentres to fill their vacancies. Employers such as these are crucially helping Afghan families build futures for themselves and their children in the UK.”
