As reported by the Independent, people with long COVID are struggling to access support and care
It is believed that well over 1m people are currently suffering from long COVID, half of whom have had persistent symptoms for over a year.
People are also finding it hard to get the support and treatment they require.
The NHS has dedicated clinics, but these primarily focus on respiratory issues, rather than the other conditions which are now present with long COVID. Other symptoms include chronic fatigue, headaches, a persistent cough, breathlessness, loss of taste and smell, and heart palpitations.
The clinics have also struggled to cope with high demand from patients, many of whom may be starting to feel neglected or ignored.
The UK’s health service does not yet treat long COVID as a long term condition, some experts have called for a change in approach to similar that which is offered to patients with HIV.
