Ahead of Keir Starmer’s NHS mission launch last Monday, Dr. Jennifer Dixon, chief executive of the Health Foundation released a comment
Dixon said: “With more than seven million people on waiting lists, challenges over GP access and chronic staff shortages, addressing the crisis facing the NHS is a national priority that needs urgent action. It is right that tackling the challenges in the NHS is one of Labour’s key missions.
“Any credible plan to improve the NHS needs to be tough on ill-health and tough on the causes of ill-health: our nation’s underlying poor health is holding back growth, contributing to economic inactivity, and adding pressure to all public services.
“Health needs to be seen as an asset that is crucial to the prosperity and resilience of the nation. Alongside this, we need to harness the benefits of AI and wider technology in the NHS, as well as its use in supporting people to manage their health more actively.
“The NHS wasn’t set up to go it alone. It needs a long-term vision, and whichever party gets into power must also address the major issues in social care, plus deliver an ambitious, long-term plan to address widening health inequalities and improve the nation’s health.”
