18 month surgery waiting list predicted due to NHS strikes

As reported by the The Independent, 140,000 appointments have been cancelled due to healthcare worker strikes

Approximately 10,000 surgery patients will be placed on an 18 month waiting list by the end of march.

The delays are said to be direct effects from 140,000 cancelled appointments caused by industrial action of staff across the NHS.

While the NHS had stated in the previous week that it was on time to meet its milestone target, senior staff have refuted the unlikely claim as more strikes are set in the close future.

“If ministers are serious about preventing a further exodus and cutting the backlog, they need to hear the calls of NHS leaders and come to the table and talk about pay,” says Patricia Marquis, RCN director for England.
