NEWS: NHS Delays Finance System Upgrade Again

As reported by Digital Health, NHS England has postponed its £170bn Oracle finance system upgrade to 2025 after missing the April 2024 deadline

NHS England has once again postponed the long-awaited replacement of its Oracle finance system, extending a delay that has now stretched beyond three years.

The Integrated Single Financial Environment (ISFE), which processes approximately £170 billion in health spending annually, was due to be upgraded, but a revised go-live date of April 2024 has been missed. According to the UK government’s Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) in its 2023-24 Annual Report on Major Projects, the project has been given a red rating—indicating that “successful delivery of the project appears to be unachievable.”

An NHS England spokesperson confirmed the latest delay, stating, “A decision was taken to extend the planning and testing for this highly complex critical national infrastructure, and a revised launch date in 2025 for the new system will be communicated shortly.”

The report added that “the project may need re-scoping and/or its overall viability reassessed”.
