NEWS: Director for women’s health named

As reported by NHE, NHS England announces Dr Sue Mann as the pioneering national clinical director for women’s health, setting a new direction for female healthcare

Sue will be tasked with implementing the Women’s Health Strategy as well as women’s health hubs.

A network of women’s health champions is also set to be developed, comprising healthcare leaders in local health systems across the country.

Sue currently leads women’s health improvements in North East London, with the roll-out of women’s health hubs and virtual group consultations both featuring on her CV.

“While our understanding and treatment of women’s healthcare has come a long way, we know there is still a lot more we need to do, and I am excited to be able to play a role in that as the first national clinical director for women’s health,” said Sue.

Alongside Dr Sue Mann’s announcement, six other national clinical directors have been recruited by NHSE, including:

• Dr Lesley Kay – Musculoskeletal
• Dr Jeremy Isaacs – Dementia
• Dr Thomas Downes – Older People and Integrated Personalised Care
• Dr Tony Avery – Prescribing (reappointed)
• Professor Ramani Moonesinghe – Critical and Perioperative Care (reappointed)
• Professor Matt Inada-Kim – Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance (reappointed)

“The seven people announced today bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge,” according to NHSE’s national medical director, Professor Sir Stephen Powis.

He added that the appointment of Dr Sue Mann as the first ever national clinical director for women’s health is a “hugely positive step forward”.

Those announced have been appointed on a three-year basis or part-time secondments.
