NEWS: First Daily Pill Approved For Endometriosis

As reported by The National, a game-changing daily pill for endometriosis has just been approved for NHS use, offering a simpler, faster alternative to injections

A new pill designed to revolutionise endometriosis treatment has been approved for use on the NHS. The combination drug, relugolix–estradiol–norethisterone (also known as relugolix combination therapy or Ryeqo), could benefit around 1,000 women in England each year who suffer from the debilitating condition.

Approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), this is the first long-term daily pill licensed for endometriosis treatment. It works by blocking key hormones responsible for the condition while also providing essential hormone replacement. Unlike current injectable treatments, which can initially worsen symptoms, this pill is taken at home, acts more quickly, combines necessary hormones in a single dose, and reduces the need for clinic visits.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the womb’s lining grows outside the uterus, affecting areas such as the pelvis, bladder, and bowel. The newly approved drug will be available on the NHS only for patients whose medical or surgical treatments have been unsuccessful.
