NEWS: New Data Act will cut bureaucracy

As reported by Think Digital Partners, the government is promising that the new Data (Use and Access) Act will cut bureaucracy across public services

Provisions in the new Act are designed to ensure that vital healthcare information such as a patient’s medical history, appointments, and test results can be accessed in real time across all NHS trusts, GP practices and ambulance services, regardless of the IT systems in use.

According to the government, this improved data sharing will save NHS staff an estimated 140,000 hours annually in administrative tasks and help speed up diagnoses and treatments for patients. The Act also includes measures to support bereaved parents seeking answers when a child’s death may be linked to social media activity. Under the new legislation, Ofcom will be required to issue a data preservation notice to social media companies when notified by a coroner, ensuring that relevant online data is retained to assist in investigations.
