As reported by Digital Health, hospitals across the UK are increasing their use of an artificial intelligence system that listens to consultations and produces draft clinical notes in real time, in a move aimed at easing administrative pressures on frontline staff

Oracle Health’s Clinical Note AI, which was launched in the United States last year, is now available to all UK customers and is already in use in more than 300 organisations. The technology relies on ambient voice recognition to capture conversations between clinicians and patients, automatically generating structured notes to reduce time spent on documentation.

Early adopters in the UK include Barts Health NHS Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which are extending deployment of the system following a pilot phase.

Robin Kearney, a consultant in acute medicine at Milton Keynes University Hospital, said the tool had changed the way he works. “It’s improved the accuracy of my notes and given me a lot of time back,” he said, adding that he can now complete patient letters before individuals leave the department.

The UK rollout comes as Oracle commits $5bn (£3.7bn) over the next five years to expand its cloud infrastructure and services in response to rising demand in the UK market.
