As reported by Digital Health, London GP patients are being given a greater say in their future care after a major expansion of the NHS App enabled them to create and manage their own Universal Care Plan online
The new functionality allows people registered with a London GP practice to record their treatment preferences, personal wishes and other important information in a shared digital care plan that can be accessed by authorised health and social care professionals.
Patients in the capital have been able to view their Universal Care Plan through the NHS App since January 2024, but the latest update marks the first time they can actively complete and update key parts of the record themselves.
The enhanced system, delivered by Better in partnership with OneLondon, also opens up additional clinical sections so patients can see more of what healthcare professionals are recording about their health.
Health leaders say the change is intended to improve openness and encourage people to take a more active role in decisions about their treatment and ongoing support.
Since the update was introduced on 13 May 2026, OneLondon said millions of Londoners have gained direct control over their health and care preferences for the first time, helping to advance personalised care across the capital.
