As reported by the National Health Executive, a new pilot will allow health visiting teams to deliver childhood vaccinations during routine visits, targeting families who are missing standard immunisation appointments, with national rollout planned from 2027

From mid January, twelve pilot schemes will be introduced across London, the Midlands, the North East and Yorkshire, the North West, and the South West. Under the scheme, health visitors will receive training to administer vaccines and to speak with parents who may have concerns about immunisation.

The pilot is designed to expand the remit of health visiting teams to include the delivery of childhood vaccinations, helping to reach children who may otherwise miss routine immunisation appointments.

The programme is focused on families who are not consistently engaged with primary care, including those who are not registered with a GP, face transport or childcare difficulties, experience language barriers, or are dealing with complex personal circumstances.

By offering vaccinations in the home, the initiative seeks to reduce practical barriers and increase protection against preventable diseases. The year long pilot will be assessed before a potential national rollout from 2027.
