The Centre for Mental Health has launched a five-year plan to tackle inequality and improve support nationwide
As reported by National Health Executive, the Centre for Mental Health has launched a new five-year strategy, A Mentally Healthier Future, with the aim of creating a society where no one is left behind because of their mental health.
At its core, the strategy is built around three ambitions: meeting people’s essential needs to protect wellbeing, guaranteeing timely access to support for everyone and eliminating discrimination linked to mental health.
To turn this vision into reality, the centre has set out five priorities for 2025–2030: advancing knowledge through research, challenging inequality, convening networks to drive change, supporting leadership across sectors and expanding learning through training and partnerships.
The strategy also makes clear that tackling mental health injustice means working beyond the health system. The centre plans to collaborate with policymakers, practitioners, and communities to ensure that education, employment, housing, and justice all play their part in supporting better mental health.
The launch comes at a critical moment. More than a million people are currently on waiting lists for mental health support, while 23% of adults experience a common mental health problem – yet only half get the help they need.
By committing to equity, evidence and action, the centre hopes its new strategy will not only close gaps in care but also reshape the wider systems that determine people’s mental health.
