NEWS: Five-Day Doctor Strike to Proceed After Ballot Backs Walkout

London, United Kingdom - April 6, 2016: Singers, chanters, nurses, teachers, patients and lots of junior doctors turned up for the fourth Junior Doctors' strike rally.

As reported by the BBC, resident doctors in England will begin industrial action on Wednesday after union members voted to reject a revised government offer that did not include pay talks

A five-day strike by doctors in England is set to proceed this week, following the rejection of a revised government proposal. The latest offer did not address pay, with Health Secretary Wes Streeting reiterating that salary talks are off the table after resident doctors received pay rises of almost 30% over the past three years.

The British Medical Association agreed to hold a rapid consultation after ministers presented a new package that included an expansion of specialty training positions and financial support for costs such as examination fees. However, the union said its members backed continuing industrial action, with 83% voting in favour in an online ballot that saw 65% participation.

The walkout, involving resident doctors is scheduled to begin at 7:00am on Wednesday.
